Prevention and treatment of rolling bearing heat failure

The service life of any bearing largely depends on its acceptance for maintenance and upkeep. This is especially true in industrial applications, where working conditions are often harsh, loads are heavy, and dust and pollution are common on a large scale. Bearings are an important component of a major industrial equipment. Bearing issues may lead to expensive downtime, equipment damage, and malfunctions. In addition, large industrial bearings represent a significant amount of capital investment.

In order to achieve high equipment performance and reliable operation with low maintenance costs, it is necessary to follow the correct handling methods. This includes bearing storage, removal, cleaning, inspection, and installation. Suitable for the design of all anti friction bearings. Special anti-corrosion coatings are available for bearing storage, but most bearings are not made of anti-corrosion materials. Care must be taken when handling and storing bearings to ensure that they do not rust or corrode. Even wet or unprotected chemical gloves left by the hands or a small amount can cause etching in a small area, which may lead to bearing fatigue.

Newly built and modified bearings are shipped with protective coatings, usually in a protective cover paper or other packaging, and shipped in a cardboard or wooden box. When receiving a new or modified bearing, do not remove it from the packaging until it is ready for installation in the application. Do not store directly on the cement floor, where condensation water can be collected and bearings can be used. Pallets or bearings on store shelves, where bearings are not subject to high humidity or sudden and drastic temperature changes, may lead to condensation formation in the area.

Each type of bearing design has a unique deletion process. Regardless of the type of bearing, the bearing must be carefully removed. If operated improperly, it may damage bearings, shafts, or casings, requiring expensive repairs. For smaller bearings, a puller can assist in bearing removal, etc. For areas equipped with tight fit, or locked onto a shaft, mechanical removal of the bearing puller is not allowed. The inner ring of the bearing can be heated to reduce relocation. Heat lamps or other heating devices can be used. If a torch is used, it will alter the performance of the bearing steel and the bearing must be discarded.

Under certain special operating conditions, bearings can achieve a longer lifespan than traditional calculations, especially under light loads. These special operating conditions are the surface damage that may occur when the rolling surface (track and rolling element) is effectively separated and restricted by a lubricating oil film from pollutants. In fact, under ideal conditions, the so-called permanent bearing life is possible.

1. The lubricating oil has impurities, is too dirty, the oil ring is stuck, or the brand is incorrect. The oil should be changed, the cause of jamming should be identified and repaired. When the oil viscosity is too high, the lubricating oil should be replaced;

2. Bearing damage. Check if the balls or bearing shells of the ball bearings are damaged. If there is any damage, it should be repaired or replaced;

3. There is a shortage of oil in the bearing chamber. Fill 2/3 of the oil chamber with lubricating grease or add lubricating oil to the standard oil level line

4. There is too much grease blockage in the rolling bearing, and the temperature of the lubricating oil in the sliding bearing is too low or too high. Excessive lubricating grease should be removed from the rolling bearing, or the lubricating grease in the oil chamber should be filled to 2/3;

5. If the fit between the bearing and the shaft or between the bearing and the end cover is too loose or too tight, it will cause deformation of the bearing, and if it is too loose, it is easy to cause "sleeve running". When the fit between the bearing and the shaft is too loose, the journal can be coated with metal paint, and when it is too tight, it can be reworked; If the bearing and end cover fit too loosely, insert the end cover tightly. If they are too tight, rework them.
